What the World Sees

Or: God I really need a better background. Eventually when I stop hiding this thing I'd love some graphic design help. Maybe some extra color beyond my two tone scheme I've got going. I'll have to look into it.

So, it was also decided recently that I should write a book about the life of the current generation 20 somethings.  Basically, a tell all, "Why We Are All Fucked" type book explaining the various reasons we are all idots (myself included) and the impact it will have.

But that's not starting now, not going to do that while at work. I kinda really like my job and would like to not offend EVERYONE.

So, here is another cool thing to entertain you. This one not so much a tool, but something I thoroughly enjoyed with the holidays coming up:

OH! This means I should do a few awesome holiday posts. On it.

Give Us The Tools, and We Will Finish The Job

So, had to disappear the site for a bit while testing another. Can't say it won't happen again, this is my own personal play space after all.

Anyway, I'm gonna start a little series here, if only to just gather my thoughts, on the possible tools I would use or need for any sort of future events. Basically, a gathering of what would go into my own personal utility belt (or satchel, some things don't minaturize well). So let's get started with something useful:

The Haligan Bar

Basically, the end all be all in GTFO gear. Pry something open? Done. Door needs to come down? Cakewalk. Wall that is in the way? Take it down.

Seriously, this is some pretty solid end of the world gear. If society collapses due to say, Zombies, don't you think this would be a great thing to have, both from an escaping stand point and a skull bashing stanpoint? Either the lighter, faster titanium, or the heavier steel alloy ones for more power, this tool would be a post apocalyptic dream.

The way I think about it, the US army has an entrenching tool it uses for hand-to-hand combat and digging holes. In this day and age though, trenches aren't very useful, since front lines are always changing and the world is increasingly more urban. That said, a hand-to-hand tool that can be used to remove baricades seems the logical replacement. Add a sharp cutting part to the edge of the bar and you've got a terrible, mighty tool.

The Inaction of Good Men

I have known a lot of good men in my short time here on this planet. Guys who would have my back if I ever needed them, guys who rarely let me down. My friends are often people with good morals, the kind of person you would call a "Stand Up Guy".

I've known some pretty terrible people in my time as well. People who have done terrible things, the un-trustworthy sort who have always only been out for their own gain.

The thing is, you would think that these two groups of people wouldn't get along. Yet invariably, they are friends. I know I've called these cruel people friends when I try to count myself among the good guys. So why is this? Inaction.

More often than not, when someone does something truly despicable, the response nowadays is "That's none of my business." People would rather continue to have someone to hang out with rather than make the hard choice of "Is this person truly someone worth my friendship" so they ignore the actions. I openly admit to having done this on more than one occasion, and defending the actions of my "friends" to others as "None of our business."

Don't get me wrong, sometimes it truly is none of my business. I'm not here to judge your family life, and sure while I may disagree with you and look down on you if you cheat on a girlfriend or use your time at work inappropriately, it's none of my business.

But when people start to get hurt. Truly hurt. Then we should be taking a stand. Deciding if these are the people we truly wish to be friends with. Deciding if we truly want someone of that nature to have our backs. I may not be perfect and I make tons of mistakes, but I will do my best to stand up for what's right.

Adventures of a Standard Issue Guy

So, I've decided to buckle down and take some ownership of my online identity outside of facebook, google, and th erest of the giant internet timesinks I love. This site isn't for anything one thing in particular, which is fitting since I am a Jack-of-All-Trades. Or Jack-Ass, depending on which ex-girlfriend you happen to be asking at the time.

So I'll cover everything I feel is applicable in my life here. Work stuff (nothing specific, but things I find interesting related to Information Security, my field of choice), personal stuff (cooking, video games, working out, fighting bears, travel), and even family stuff (friends, family, holidays, pets, fighting more bears). I can't promise I'll always entertain you, but hey, this is me.
