The Super Dead Shuffle

So I wanted to comment on this earlier, but I can’t seem to find the time to actually write on this thing sometimes. And when I do have the time, I’m offline or reading more things I want to comment on. Life is hard.

But I digress. So for anyone that knows me well, or has seen some of my rants when surrounded by an audience might have heard me mention zombies. Zombies have always fascinated me since I was a teen watching horror movies all night with my best friends.

It’s probably because it’s the only classic horror monster that I find scary. I can take a werewolf (silver bullet) or a vampire (glitter repellant), but a zombie? Sure they’re slow and go down with a blow to the head, but if you see one it’s already too late. You see, unless it’s Patient Zero, that zombie has a couple hundred friends. I don’t care who you are, you don’t have that much ammo, and you will get tired. And if you run and hide? Society is still falling apart around you, with less food, less ammo, and an ever growing number of zombies.

At that point it’s not if you survive, but for how long.

But hey, that’s all science fiction and the supernatural, nothing to worry about right? It’s just good for George Romero movies (the first three, forget anything after that) and Max Brooks books (go buy The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z NOW).

But some forms of the “zombie plague” in movies do seem quite similar to rabies, which is kind of plausible. And new parasites that science is learning about, prions, do sound like they could start making zombies. Which is why the following it both hilarious and frightening all at once.

The Centers for Disease Control posted a Zombie Apocalypse Preparedness 101 guide. It’s very tongue in cheek, and they say they’re using zombies as an example for preparedness that would be good to have for ANY disaster. But it’s interesting to see even the CDC say “What if…?”

Honestly it just makes me want to start building my “Oh Crap” kit. Part “Bug Out Bag”, part “Come Get Some” toolbox. Sounds like fun to me actually.

Maniac Mansion

OH man did life just get exciting. See, and huge part of my youth was spent playing video games...and then my teenage years...and then in college...and after graduation...really all of my life I've been obsessed with games. And not in the "OMG I'M PLAYING HALO WITH MY BROS AND CURSING OUT PEOPLE ONLINE" way. I love single player games (or even better, Co-Op games with a plot). I find it to be the ultimate form of interactive storytelling.

Modern games have gorgeous art direction that puts most movies to shame, epic musical scores, control schemes that really draw a person into the interactive experience, and some of the best story writing in this day and age. Sure, some games can be terrible, but when a game links these elements...storytelling gold.

Old games also achieved this the best they could, and some of my favorite old games were Adventure games. Usually point and click puzzle games, you took control of a character and moved from scene to scene, collecting items that would help you solve puzzles and further the story. Games like "Sam and Max: Hit the Road" and "Day of the Tentacle" were absolute genius, made by the king of these games back in the day, LucasArts. Now, remakes/sequels of these games are being made (for the past few years) which I love by the company Telltale Games.

But the game that started it all, that really brought these games into prominence and started their Golden Age, was "Maniac Manshion". By today's standards a graphically and musically crude game, the game was advanced for it's time, with a hilarious script and branching storylines. Finally a fan remake is being made, and it looks awesome. Following the art style of the sequel "Day of the Tentacle", the game will be more asthetically pleasing and easier to consume for modern gamers. And I'll enjoy every second of it.

It hurts me that this is happening when I have 20 other games I've been meaning to play (the fact that I haven't touched L.A. Noire yet actually burns up my soul), but all the excitement can't be contained.

Delicious

Hamburgers really rate up there as one of my favorite foods. Which is lucky for me, because D.C. ranks itself as the burger capital of the U.S.

The home of Five Guys, as well as a plethora of smaller gourmet chains like The Counter, Ray's Hell Burger, Burger 7, BGR (mmmm Mojo sauce), Rogue States, Matchbox (better known for their pizza though), Ollie Trolley...the list goes on!

I am sorely tempted to do a Hamburger tour sometime this summer, just because I can. That said, if this ever happens I'm borked.

Seriously, game over guys.

Mortal Kombat

It seems I just keep putting videos on here, but I'm not stopping the trend now. Maybe I'll come up with something substantial to write soon.

But first! Mortal Kombat!

Seriously, this was one of the first series of games I ever got invested in (explains my love of martial arts, gorey movies, and video games). And they're rebooting the series. Well, they did, the game came out last week and I'm going to jump on it used in a few months, but I have so many games I need to play in the next year...life is hard.

Anyway, here is a badass new music video about the game, which I have been listening to on repeat.

How bad ass is some of this stuff? That's right, I'm on Team LiveBadAss
