90's Party

Will we be having ridiculous 90's parties in the future? Do people already do this? I call dressing as Doug Funny

IT'S THE 90S! from Everything Is Terrible! on Vimeo.

Did people ever say this about the new century? Was that a thing I missed?

Cyber Crime: The Hackers

Here is a fantastic TED talk about hackers, specifically the actual people themselves. The speaker, Misha Glenny, is a journalist who focuses on the globalization of crime and criminal networks. In the modern times, this will always come down to cyber crime as one of the most prolific crimes that trancends national borders.

I love learning about cyber crime. While human trafficking and drug trafficking are more well known and popularized global crime subjects, cyber crime is truly a product of our current society and a new thing. It's the frontier of the world. The motives are the same as in any crime, but the methodology has led to a whole new arms race. It is truly fascinating stuff.

Forgetful

Wow I've been meaning to post. Two months with nothing? That's just a waste. Here's a cool video game related short film to bring me back into it.

For those who don't know, this short film is based off of Portal, a video game by Valve. Valve also happen to be the makers of Half-Life 1 & 2 (some of the greatest games of all time), Team Fortress (the second one being a game I play a couple times a week still with my buddies online), and the PC gaming game-changer Steam (which revolutionized digital distribution). They're kind of a big deal.

Portal works off of the premise seen in the short, a gun that creates two portals in space that are connected. Essentially, windows in the fabric of reality. This simple concept (as well as great writing and storytelling) has lead to two major puzzle video games that ensared everyone who played them. This is a must play. Hell, even my lovely girlfriend who I've slowly been introducing to games loves the series, and the first Portal was the first game she ever completed.

Also, the director of the film is a guy by the name of Dan Trachtenberg, one of the hosts of the daily geek-entertainment-news show "The Totally Rad Show" on Revision3. I watch the show constantly since I was introduced to it by another host of the show, Alex Albrecht, who also co-hosts a show I used to follow, Diggnation. Which is co-hosted by Kevin Rose, who used to be on TechTV before it was G4tv. Which I used to watch daily in high school with my friends...this has turned into a long story huh?

Sometimes I agree with this guy. Sometimes I hate him.

This time he's spot on.
